Morning Sickness? A Gentle Way to Support Your Pregnancy

For many women, one of the first signs of pregnancy is nausea.

Despite the name morning sickness, it doesn’t always happen in the morning. It can appear at any time of the day — sometimes as a mild queasiness, and other times as persistent nausea that makes it difficult to eat, work, or even get through daily activities.

While nausea is often considered a normal part of early pregnancy, that doesn’t mean you simply have to endure it. Many women look for natural ways to ease their symptoms, and acupuncture is one option that has helped countless pregnant women feel better during the first trimester.

In my clinic, morning sickness is one of the most common reasons women come for acupuncture in early pregnancy.

Why Does Morning Sickness Happen?

During the first weeks of pregnancy, the body goes through an incredible hormonal shift. Levels of pregnancy hormones rise quickly as the body adapts to support the developing baby.

Because of this, acupuncture is sometimes recommended as a natural approach for managing pregnancy-related nausea.

When to Start Acupuncture

Acupuncture is safe during pregnancy when provided by a qualified practitioner experienced in treating pregnant women.

Many women begin treatment as soon as nausea appears, which is often around weeks 6–8 of pregnancy. Early support can sometimes prevent symptoms from becoming more severe.

At the beginning, treatments may be recommended once or twice per week depending on how intense the symptoms are.

As nausea begins to settle, which often happens around the second trimester, treatments can be spaced further apart or continued for other pregnancy support.

Early pregnancy can be both exciting and overwhelming. When nausea is constant, it can also feel very draining.
